Backcountry access ticky beta, Whistler/Blackcomb was created by Tophervw
Anyone find this a reasonable option these days, or the cost to value ratio to low?
I ran a quick search, "Backcountry access tickets" on their site and only found reference to when they wont sell them? No reference to cost or where to procure said ticket...
Thanks in advance,
C

The backcountry tickets are $52 CA and it's worth it to me. You can get them at the main base or the Blackcomb base in the customer service line where they also deal with edge cards and season ticket holders.

If you go with a BC ticket to save $16 (compare EDGE card $68), make really sure that you are certain there is no chance that you will want to retreat back to the lifts. Over a few years I've had at least two cases where, once up the mountain, it turned out to be expedient to ride lifts either instead of or as a supplement to BC; if you do that with a BC ticket they want to fine you $500.
So I generally just get the full ticket for insurance because the ticket price difference is small compared to the full loaded cost of getting to and staying in Whistler.
Consider also the time cost in the AM, which may be considerable on a busy weekend morning (what price 20 or 30 minutes when the sun is shining?). If you have an EDGE card that's already active, you just get in the lift line.
One option: Ski lifts or side country most of the day on a full ticket, then go get your camp gear and use an afternoon ride up to get to camp at some place like Singing Pass.

Great info guys, I expect we will end up poking around in the woods in the Duffy region, so as not to burn the morning hours or get popped by the unauthorized use fine...
$52 is definitely more than I was hoping for, guess I'll get a one day edge card and see how the weekend plays out...
