Hey Jimmy, sorry for delay in responding and for being unclear in the first place.  No, my only point was that the transfer from the train station to the hill is fast enough to allow pretty much a full day, but I wasn't up to speed on snow conditions.  Looks like conditions are better than thin, but not yet classic Whitefish phat..    snotel    That package is a pretty good deal.

That train trip is good fun. Done it a couple of times with family. The one caveat is that you must go into it with the understanding the schedule is likely not to be as published, especially in winter conditions. One time we had to drive to spokane (in order to not ride a greyhound the railroad offered) to meet the train. Another time we were several hours late getting home.

IF you can be relaxed about timing I'd strongly recommend.

i did this trip from pdx with my wife. what a great way to do it!

sleep going there; wake up and go straight to the mountain for a full day on the slopes

late departure (9p if i remember correctly); sleep on the way back; arrive back in town mid morning

only thing better would be to do it in the summer when you could actually see the beautiful landscape you're passing thru
