I'm in Minneapolis with family for the holidays. There's no snow so I've been doing some housekeeping on my laptop. With John Scurlock's permission, I've reprinted the essay that I wrote for his book Snow & Spire on alpenglow.org. You can find it here:

alpenglow.org/themes/ncascade-winter/index.html

This version includes digital "woodcuts" by artist Don Smith which were omitted from the book (see above and below). It also includes the complete chronology of Cascade winter climbs (including climbs outside the North Cascades) that I used in my research and writing. If anyone finds errors or omissions in the climbing chronology, let me know and I can correct the online version.

Of course, the real heart of the book is John's amazing aerial photography. The publisher's blurb for Snow & Spire can be found here:

And you can peek inside the book here:

Enjoy!

For those of you who missed John's Methow Valley presentation on 12/6 where he entertained a standing room only crowd - and who can't make the January 5th WSTC event - the Methow Conservancy is bringing John Scurlock to the Burke Museum for a second event on Wednesday, February 1st @ 7 p.m.

Books will be available for sale and signing by John at the event.

More info on this and future Methow Conservancy programs in Seattle and the Methow Valley can be found in the monthly E-Newsletter @ Methow Conservancy E-News - John Scurlock 2/1/12
