Sierra NV, good ice was created by all mtn
- endless clear days/ nights making for good ice climbing, Tioga pass; and ice skating on higher elevation lakes. man-made snow skiing is best on lower angle slopes. one of the driest seasons in the range was winter, '77 - pre-snowmaking era. 'miracle Mar.', '91 was another dry one that made up for it in 1 month. (oh yaa, hiking is good too as the passes and high elevation roads are snow-free)

Ah yes, March 1991...my first backcountry trip to the Sierras with fantastic corn skiing. I subsequently discovered that that year was an anomaly.

'77-'78 was to be my first year skiing. However, with the low snowfall we were encouraged to take back our lesson money and try again next season. I still remember having a conversation with a friend of mine whose parents had a condo at Hyak when it did start raining in the lowlands. We were at Cedar Valley elementary and he said it was still too warm.
'90/'91 I was at WWU. I think we had a great snow year though I wasn't doing much skiing. We had tons on snow on the ground over Christmas break iirc.
