Hyak vs Central for preseason touring was created by JPH
Which one do you think is better? Hyak is what comes to mind first, but I don't know if that's just because that's where I've always gone when Central is open.
If both are closed, which do you think is the better option?

Was thinking the same thing when weighing options for Sunday. Seems like Central has a longer walk on flat ground before you get to anything steep enough to ski. Haven't skied Hyak since I was a kid though, so my information could be dated. In terms of early season hazards I was wondering about the landslide area at Hyak. I understand there was mesh fencing put up after it happened but I'm assuming that is gone now? Don't know what, if anything, was done in terms of grading and stabilizing that area i.e. are there large road cut size rocks there now?

Hyak....I've heard the backside is really nice now too. The landslide area was actually fill that was put into an existing void of stumps and dirt that washed out. There is no threat of it sliding further and they did fill the bottom section with large boulders so there would not be a hole..... It is very easy to avoid if you don't want to hit it, but I think it is fun myself and adds to the character of Hyak.

After thinking it over, I think Hyak is the better choice. Luckily I was thinking it over at Alpy, which was freakin awesome.
