BD Drifts?? Anyone got a report on 'em? was created by John Morrow
Can anyone give me some info on how they ski?  I am not real aggressive and never at the area.  Looking for float in soft and quicker turning.
Thanks,
John

Brenda skied on the Starlets most of last season, and did really well on them.  They're the womens version of the Drift. Very light. I think the Drift is a little heavier. They got enough width for good float as well as early rise in the tip. I also remember her handling some firm stuff pretty well with them. I'm probably going to be skiing those Starlets this season, as I really want to go to a ski with a bit of early rise in the tip, which they have.

I've been skiing on drifts for about a year and I really like them. I'm not the greatest skier, but I've enjoyed them on every kind of snow except breakable crust (which I never enjoy). One of my skis, mounted with vertical St and voile crampon mount thingy weighs in at 4lb 11oz. They have gained a rep for being a soft ski, but they don't seem that soft to me, except at the tip. They really do good and have great edge hold on hard snow and even ice. You will love them in soft snow and in tight areas.

I have a pair of 186s, mounted with O1s. Ski great in the backcountry, particularly in light snow. Very kind on the uptrack being light and all.

They do not excel in chopped up resort skiing or on super firm snow. I am pretty psyched on mine. Also nabbed a pair of Justices, which kill it on the chopped and chowder, just not as kind on the uptrack. They can be a lot to handle and you need to work them pretty hard to make them perform as intended.

I really like the 186 Drift after skiing them as my primary ski last year with TLT ST bindings. Early-rise tips are soft and never dive. Flat tails are stiff and really keep me forward (I would say they have made me a better skier). They feel big and light, fast, and turn on a dime, as well as hold nice arcing carves on the hardpack. They are great for powder touring! One possible downfall is the deep sidecut which may not be preferred for skinning/traversing steep slopes in hard conditions.

These seem more like traditional (?) skis than some modern designs that have rocker and twin tips. I think the Drift are more for suited for carved turns rather than butter/schmear style skiing.
