First Ascent Gear Quality? was created by JDHall
I am looking for some feedback om a few jacket options. I am shopping for a new shell and was pretty sold on the OR Maximus jacket as I am looking for a stout jacket. I am confident in the Gore Tex Pro Shell products but I also wanted to consider the First Ascent Seaba Heli Guide jacket. I am just a little leary that the FA "storm repel" will perform as well as the Gore Tex Pro shell. Does anyone have any experince with how waterproof and breathable the FA products are?
Any feedback would be much appreciated
Here is a link to the FA Seaba jacket info

I don't know if I should be answering this but what the hell.
If its a question about the Seaba Heli Guide Yes it is a burly shell, that is both super waterproof and highly breathable yet lighter then the Maximus (not to mention 50 dollars cheaper). I used in both resort and backcountry touring conditions and it looks as new as the day I bought it.
As for quality of gear in the past I have run through gear in weeks but I haven't had a single issue with anything on the First Ascent line.
If you have any issues with it remember that Eddie Bauer has a unconditional lifetime Guarantee.

I took a avalanche course last winter and the two of the instructors (who I believe were sponsored by Eddie Bauer) were wearing the SEABA bibs. They had been using them all winter and they looked almost new. I asked their honest opinion and they said they really did like them and only had a few minor quibbles that I can't even remember because they were so insignificant. They sold me on the bibs! Hope you find a jacket you like!

Yes, he is, but I've noticed when he blasts by me in the BC, he's actually using their product. And FWIW, Kyle hardly seems the type of guy to sling gear. If there ever were a good product tester... It MUST hold up well to bushwacking.
