2006 g-ride boots performance

With all the bigger skis today and looking to get into a pair of AT boots, can a 2006 garmont g-ride reasonably drive a ski like the mantra or line prophet 98?  I am an alpiner, voly patrol at sno pass and would like a boot that makes using my barons for going up the hill more efficient but can still come down and perform. Nothing new, but on a budget, wondering how some of the older boots do.

I had a pair of g rides from that era and had trouble pushing a pair of atomic sugar daddy's (about 99 underfoot and not a stiff ski IMHO). I transitioned to Garmont adrenalines and had no problems at all driving the SD's as well as some k2 Anti pistes/Coombacks. everyone's a bit different but that's how it was for me....
