Ideas for Ski Tomorrow with my Dog was created by Pete_H
Looking to take my new dog out for her first time skiing tomorrow somewhere with minimal crevasse hazard. She's 1.5 yrs old and a husky / border collie mix so very athletic and fit.
I've thought of the CD route on Baker (from what I've heard crevasse hazard seems pretty minimal right now) or possible Ptarmigan Ridge to the Sholes. I definitly don't need to summit - it would just be fun to get her some skiing experience.
Any other suggestions? I'm open to non-volcano destinations as well. I do only have a day though.
Thanks in advance!
Pete

Personally, I won't take my dog on a glacier (unless she's harnessed up and secured to me). She wanders and roams too much.
Sounds like there's still skiable snow up in the Artist Point/Baker area. If you wanted a bit of a hike to minimal skiing (that's really selling it, isn't it?) there's still snow in the Chair Peak basin. Shorter drive, anyway.

Keep your dog off the CD, I suggest. The lower glacier has lots of minor fractures, with some full-sized ones that a pup could get into trouble with.
Bagley Lakes or Table have sounded good recently. Chinook Pass is another good option for close snow. I don't know what the NP boundary will mean if some ranger is on pup patrol.

If you head to Chinook Pass -- be sure to use the uppermost / eastern most lot (forest service) and stick to the east side of the HWY-410 out of the park. I neglected to do last November and got a $75 ticket when a NPS ranger found me and my dog loading back into my car in the Tipsoo Lakes parking lot.
Three weeks ago there was still tons of snow on the N and E slopes of Naches Peak outside the park.
Squak gl on Baker might be another good option -- Silas's recent report indicated crevasse free skiing between 8800ft and 5000ft

Good points and suggestions - thanks!
I considered Chinook but I'm coming from the Methow and Baker area would be much less of a drive. Think I'll skip the CD as suggested and go to Artist's Point / Sholes. Thanks again!
