Spirit 4 Walk/ Ski Lever was created by freightrainer
The Spirit 4 ski/ walk lever is a little more complicated than most – unnecessarily complicated in my opinion and a little fragile but they can be removed and disassembled for modifications or repair pretty easily. I removed the mechanism because it kept popping out of ski mode. It looks like the problem was a manufacturing defect. The hole for the forward position (22 degrees) was a little misaligned so the spring pin never fully engaged.
There are two pins that need to be removed – one on the lever and one on the boot heel. Both of the pins have a small end which you can hammer on with a punch and easily drive out. The forward lean adjustment screw also needs to be removed which can be a little tricky since you need a ¼” end wrench and some force since these are installed at the factory with a good dose of Lock-Tite. I used a Dremel to regrind the hole and it seems to work fine after re-assembly.
I have also replaced the steel strap with the holes in it (walk/ ski plate) on Denalis and Megarides with a more aggressive plate by drilling a new hole further along on the plate for a little more forward lean. My feeling is that AT boots generally don’t have as much forward lean as alpine boots and don't ski as well because of this.
...hope this is useful to others in Spirit 4s.

I also had a problem with the forward lean engagement on my Spirit 4s.

Agree - they are more complex and finicky than I would prefer. Eric from Marmot fixed mine last year
