Wy'East was created by Joedabaker
As an out of towner. I looked at the Mt Hood cams and was wondering if anyone can fill me in on the the access from the Parking lot up to Wy'East. Just wondering if there is enough snow to skin from the lot. And currently the best way/least effort to access from the bottom, trying to stay on snow with skins if possible.
Thanks in advance

As of this past Tuesday (and probably for awhile to come...), you can start skinning right from the MHM base lodge. Shortly after passing the top of the highest lift you'll probably have to hike a ways, then back to skinning, and then of course eventually switch to climbing mode.
Also, even if the gate to the resort parking lot is open, too much of a risk that you might get locked inside if you return later than expected, so park just outside of it, by the side of the road.

Yeah, I have been around New England much lately:

By the way, when exiting through Superbowl and then into Heather, we could still traverse back to the main part of the resort without having to reskin. Heather has some nice lines leading from the main part of the resort toward the bottom of Heather, but from Superbowl into Heather the additional skiing didn't seem so good.
The traverse looks somewhat like ski touring in Mordor on Mt Doom, but it was very efficient:

We just came from the wyeast area to timberline. At the top of the "climber's trail" from Timberline at about 8500', traversing up and over, heading NE, there is a good place to drop into white river. The one continuous gulley on the other side may be skinnable early with ski crampons, it's pretty steep.
