Can you say "false imprisonment" or "kidnapping"....No security guard, rent-a-cop or otherwise will ever "detain" me, for any reason, unless I agree to stay. Good luck, WA state, with your new law! Man, I was born there, but that place has gone to hell.

What I have seen in colorado is that the patrol upon witnessing an infraction will notify the county which sends up a Sherif. Violators are escorted to the base where they are cited, and I'm not sure about this however I was once told the equipment confiscated as well. I could be wrong about that last detail. In all the years that I hung out at A-basin I saw this happen an several occasions.

^^^^^That sounds more realistic....and legal. Even the "escort" part could only function to identify the perp to law enforcement, not to forcibly hold them. There is citizens arrest, but most states, from what I understand (Wikipedia) only allow it when a felony has been committed.

I would buy that bumber sticker.

???

I guess it was just a matter of time after the first law was passed.  I wouldn't be surprised if they kept trying to make the law more and more restrictive since backcountry skiing is "so dangerous" and we need to be protected from ourselves.
