A ski partner from Massachusetts is coming out next week with hopes of skiing Glacier Peak (last skiable volcano above 10k ft we need) and I just read that N Fork Sauk Road #49 is closed at the junction of Mt Loop Highway due to slide/flood damage that will not be repaired until Fall 2011. Mountain Loop Scenic Byway Conditions here

This is 6.6 miles away from the TH. Just so I know our options, is the road past the washout passable on bike, and if so is it on road bikes?

Yes, an extra 13.2 miles added to our roundtrip approach!
I was concerned that this trip wouldn't be a sufficiently epic slog, but now I'm much more reassured.

Consider also approaching from the east via Indian Creek or the Little Wenatchee River. It's real purdy over there.

yeah, what andyrew said.  E-side approach (Indian Creek, Little Wenatchee or White River) is more aesthetic, IMO, although I've heard that there are blowdowns all on approaches.  More specifically, you might want to check re the reported slide on the Indian Creek trail.  LW might be the best bet.

If you approach from the IC/WR TH and have an extra day, you can exit over Kololo and down Lightning Creek High Route

The White River Rd is closed about 1.7 miles from the TH because of avalanche debris at .2 miles from the TH. The White river trail is clear and easy to follow all the way to the boulder pass trail split. Not sure about after that.

Thanks, Mick. The WR trail is usually a bit brushy a ways after the Boulder Creek jct. Any info re Indian Creek trail?

Sounds like Little Wenatchee might be the best approach
