Ah, thank you for the details, Ron!

From what I read, I am pretty sure the 60 will be enough, but looks like the 62 should be considered too :)

Cheers
Ivo

I too was initially intrigued when the 62 series debuted. After all, the 60x series has been around for a really long time by the standards of consumer electronics.
But the 62 series doesn't seem to have any noticeable advantages, yet it's noticeably heavier and bulkier. The maximum number of points per tracklog is now unlimited, but the total number of points is still the same, and still rather frustrating to have any sort of memory-related today in these days.
However, if anyone has done a firsthand compare/contrast I'd definitely be interested in the details!

FYI - I saw a review on Amazon, where someone w/ both said the 60 can run laps around the 62, and that there aren't that many good new features, but just more bulk, etc. - so I believe I did the reasonable thing and ordered the 60csx.

Thank you!

Good choice, I have used a 60 CS for the last several years similarly to the way Ron describes in his post. I have been very happy with it.

I have a Garmin Colorado 400t. The thing that attracted me was the 'roller' input device that can be operated with one hand while wearing gloves. Generally, it has been okay but the battery life is pretty poor. Also, I sent it back to Garmin for a replacement ($100 since it was out of warranty). The sat lock time can be a bit long as well.

There are some great pages out there to fully detail many different models. Here is the one for the Colorado, it has links to the other pages as well.

I just got out my old gps the other day and found it didn't work any more even with new batteries. The Garmin map60csx sounds very interesting. I am particularly interested in using my ng topo state maps program with it. Is it readily compatible with this program or will it require hiring profesional help to make it work? I have to admit that when it comes to arcaine computer programs my luddite tendencies are inclined to rise to the surface. If it is topo compatable I am sold.
