San Juan Knowledge? was created by peteyboy
Anybody know what the situation in the San Juans is currently or where to find out? Looks like the only place in W North America with good ski weather this week.

I talked to a friend in Telluride on Sunday. He said they got about a foot of new last week. He said it has been cold and wet all spring. It sounded pretty familiar. That is not really helpful trip planning beta, but it is what I have. You could try calling San Juan Mountain Guides. They are in Ouray.

I've climbed Mt. Eolus, Sunlight Peak, and Windom Peak, all accessible from the same base camp. All awesome objectives!

The best approach is via the train that runs from Durango to Silverton. The trains stops at Needleton which is where you get off. From there you follow the trail to Chicago Basin, where most people set up base camp (about 5 miles from Needleton). You can access all 3 of these mountains from here! If you don't take the train you will add several miles (I think 8-12 can't remember exactly) to the approach.

My trip there was 4 days, but I would love to go back sometime for a week+. It was one of the best times I've ever had in the mountains!

Here are my photo's from that trip: cid-ff36960b81783ab7.photos.live.com/bro...orado%20with%20Eddie
