FWIW:  The visitor center typically a stack of 8.5x11 maps with compass course instructions as well as GPS waypoints for the route to/from Muir -- they do this because people get lost in the fog farily frequently.   Sadly straying off route has lead to a number of fatalities.   Bad weather can move in quickly -- check the forecast before heading out and again at the vistor's center.   If a cloud forms on the top of the mountain and starts to grow, you might want to head down -- if nothing else skiing in the fog isn't nearly as much fun.

You can also download and print out the map with compass bearings here

I would ski Nisqually chutes somewhere between 9-11 am depending how warm a day it is and if it froze overnight. Snow conditions are so smooth as of last Friday.

As stated its pretty easy to get up to Muir. Everytime i have gone (even in march time) there have been the RMI markers. Now in white out conditions (lik ei had in march) those flags can be hard to see. Even seeing them isnt the only concern as obviously things like drop offs, ect can be tricky :) As my partner could attest you can easily think its flat when its really a good 2 foot drop :)

As for the Nisqually when i did it in July we basically went down the chute till it flattens out. Then just get as skiers left as you can. Youll be at the "base" of the short but semi steep hill at the bottom of the chute. Just bootpack up that. once at the top you are back on the main trail heading up to paradise. I think theres other ways out but thats how we did it. Basically ski chute till flattens then go skiers left up the short hill. back on main trail and enjoy a nice cruise back to the paradise parking lot.

Im sure others can give better directions but like i said that show we did it and it was late july so snow conditions were a bit different.

By the way if your goal is the Chute you dont have to climb all the way to Muir either.

Anyone know what the avi situation is like on the way up to Muir? Last I heard was from a friend who said things were a little dicey around Panorama Point, but that was a few weeks ago.

Thanks!
