Years ago I made some with orange survey tape, don't know if I got low quality survey tape or what, but in the cold and wind the survey tape fell apart. Not good. Now I have a few bunch of wands with red nylon and bamboo, nylon flags are sewn, mostly due to working in a sewing shop and having access to scrap nylon and sewing machines. Most of the wands I have seen out there are of the duct tape variety, some with red duct tape, some with black all with bamboo garden stakes.
Other good solutions include skiing only on bluebird days and rock climbing.
