BC alerting system ? was created by Clawskinner

Greetings,

I have been reading the multiple posts regarding the Phantom Avy incident. Wishing all a speedy recovery. The posts are filled with lots of great take home lessons and tips. The one that caught my attention, is the brief mention of someone from Alpental texting another uphill party right after the initial call for help. If I am accurate. I am wondering has our community discussed some sort of alerting system for BC travelers? It seem's that minutes matter in a burial, if we could get anybody to help. Injury and fatalities may be mitigated. As a professional rescuer I see many advantages of another touring party making a difference. If there is a system already, then I apologize ahead of time for missing it. Sign me up please.

My initial thought would be the SAR dispatchers kicking a text out to a call list. Location and other details. We all carry cell phones. It seems a simple system to put together. We all get on this forum pretty fast when stuff happens. yet we are at home and can do nothing. Some victim may get lucky and get help from another party that's is just minutes away.
Lots of variables here. Just a thought. Thanks for your attention.

Heiko

Yep, this system already exists.  It's super cheap, instantaneous, and doesn't require a phone, contact info, cell coverage, or TAY registration.

Seriously.  We all carry these, right?

-Keep it handy (as in "picture yourself having to find it with a broken femur" handy).
-Use it only in an emergency.
-Blow it REAL hard till your ears start to bleed, and then blow it a little more.
-If you ever hear one of these while lapping yer favorite powder stash, drop everything and bust ass towards it.
-and oh yeah, if you ever do have the misfortune of having to use this thing, hope to hell Clawskinner shows up to help you (he's got more than Ibuprophen 8) )

Only you would have some cheeky reply. Your assumption may be correct ? I may have something in my pack that has dis-associative properties for whatever you break. I gave it to guy who needed the 90 degree taken out of his femur. He woke up a claimed it was the best sleep he had in 3 decades. He was out for only seven minutes.

Let me know if the Crystal Fest happens. I 'll poach a keg from The Double Mtn. Some Kolsch would be nice.
