My favorite:
"Allan's and Mike's Really Cool Backcountry Ski Book" O'Bannon and Clellan - lots of pictures - same guy that did the tech tips pictures in "climbing magazine", geared toward skiers but very applicable to split boarders.

"Staying Alive in Avalanche Terraine" Tremper - avi text used frequently in this area.

"Freedom of the Hills" get an older edition for cheep - nice night stand reference book.

Get in touch with Stefen Lofgren, Mountaineering District Ranger when you get to Paradise. Stefan knows all the skiing backcountry rangers and other locals that know the area with whom you might go out with.

Thanks everyone for the good information. Started reading "Staying Alive In Avalanche Terrain" today. I'm really excited to get up there.

From a recovering snowboarder:

Learn to ski.

Don't be hatin'.  Just trying to help.

I didn't mean defiantly wouldn't be skiing.
However I have never skied and enjoy snowboarding way too much to make the change.
