GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. - One firefighter suffered a minor injury while responding to an apartment fire late Wednesday night in Government Camp, according to officials.
Firefighters said they responded to a call for help at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and were set upon by young people as an apartment in the complex where their party was going on went up in flames.
One woman, reportedly trapped on a second floor as the flames spread, jumped into a snow bank to escape the fire. When a firefighter went to help her, he was reportedly attacked by party goers who threw beer cans, water bottles, hard-packed snowballs - and a fire extinguisher.
The woman was slightly injured and taken to a hopsital.
The fire chief on the scene said the firefighter suffered a minor injury. No injuries were reported from the fire itself. It is estimated that about 50 people were in attendance.
Investigators said the latest details they have indicate an unruly person was ejected from the party only to return with fireworks which were either fired or thrown into an apartment, sparking the blaze.
Police did not say if they had a suspect in custody.
Party goers included skiers and snowboarders and many lost their equipment in the fire. Firefighters reportedly had to restrain some of the party goers from re-entering the charred structure to find their equipment.
Local residents tell KATU News that the skier / snowboarder party scene in Government Camp is "out of control" and past incidents have included another fire.
Reports indicate either three or four apartment units were damaged in the fire. An investigation into the fire and the incident that started is under way.

Eeegad...
Attacking a firefighter that was trying to help save someone. Heads are going to roll.
BESIDES the arson, Pretty serious crimes being committed at that scene. Sure we haven't heard the end of that one.
It's pretty obvious that they need some new snow down there.

makes me think of this.
Roof On Fire Claims Lives Of 43 Party People
04.09.03 NEW YORK—Tragedy struck at a popular Manhattan nightclub Saturday, when the roof, the roof, the roof of The Tunnel caught fire, collapsing and killing 43 party people.
According to fire-department officials, the death toll was exacerbated by the clubgoers' unwillingness to evacuate the burning building.
"I tried shouting to the people on the dance floor that the roof was on fire and that they should exit the premises immediately, but they seemed unfazed by the danger," firefighter Michael Pitti said. "I just kept shouting, 'The roof! The roof! The roof is on fire!' and so forth, but they just went right on dancing, insisting that they didn't need any of our water and that we should let the motherfucker burn."
The party people's refusal to exit the flame-engulfed nightclub is widely believed to have been the result of DJ Phreek Malik's unstoppable mix of the hottest house, funk, hip-hop, disco, jungle and techno beats.
"DJ Phreek Malik was spinning in a manner so hot, these party people were willing to give up their lives for a few extra minutes on the dance floor," New York City fire commissioner Thomas Von Essen said. "Even as a 50-foot-high wall of flames surged toward them, they continued to dance, throwing their hands in the air and waving them as if they just didn't care."
As flames continued to fill the nightclub, firefighters frantically urged the revelers to keep low to the ground to avoid smoke inhalation, but the warnings were universally ignored.
"I was screaming at the top of my lungs, 'Get down! Get down, party people!'" said Garry Hodges of Ladder Company 42, "but the more I shouted out, the harder they danced."
Though an FDNY investigation is still pending, the deadly blaze is believed to have begun at 11:40 p.m., when a roof-mounted ventilation system short-circuited, igniting the motherfucker. The fire is New York's deadliest since 1978, when 117 party people burned, baby, burned to death in a South Bronx disco inferno

When I was just a kid driving across the country I ended up crashing and partying at this place. It was pretty rowdy although we didn't burn anything or assault anybody. We were at the gas station after a spring day riding at Timberline, trying to figure our next move. We ended up skating a curb with some of the kids living next door and they asked us to crash. I was nervous about getting my stuff ripped but in fact everyone was pretty generous with beta, crash space, beer and food. On the sketch side there was a bunch of x around and they were phone phreaking the common pay phone with one of those remote looking boxes that made the sound of a quarter dropping. Pretty funny scene then but apparently not a couple nights ago.
