Did beacon practice the other day.. was created by davidG
And while I generally like my Barryvox just fine, with a multiple burial scenario close in, I would often get a "stand still" message.  I've lived with this for a while, but being a 'type A', and given the task at hand, that does not delight.  Is there something I can do to tweak my technique?  Do all triple antenna beacons pause to think..?  Looking to pick up a spare/loaner, so it's time to sort out the issues...

Well, to answer your question, yes and no.
Yes, the S1 also does this.
No, no other beacons display such messages.
Instead, if they're confused or unsure, they'll just display confusing or unsure information, without letting you know of their uncertainty.
Also, what firmware version do you have? If it doesn't display upon start up, then you don't have the latest version. Firmware upgrades for both the Pulse & S1 have reduced both the frequency and duration of the STOP messages.

If you're looking to buy another, might want to consider this:

Some further thoughts on the STOP messages:

How Well It Works: Multiple Burials
In my testing, I have found the Pulse (and S1) to be more reliable in both victim count and marking/masking than other beacons I’ve tested. With numerous victims (I’ve tested up to eight, and then I ran out of beacons), the Pulse is more likely to display “STOP” (displayed within a traffic-style octagon) combined with “Stand Still!” if it needs to sit and think a bit. (I switched the Pulse into German in the hope that any of this might be translated into a chilling “Achtung!” but no such luck.) This is somewhat disarming the first time it appears (e.g., “my beacon is telling me to do stuff?”), but after some familiarity sets in, the messages become not much more than a mildly annoying and very brief interruption. Firmware upgrades are supposed to have reduced the frequency of these interruptions, and my experience has confirmed this, although it is difficult to quantify. (Still though, I greatly enjoyed the reaction of the lead instructor at a course I was teaching at when he started talking back to his Pulse: “Stand still, who are you telling to tell me to stand still?”)

Thanks Jon. Yes, I have the 3.00 v, which I believe is latest. I agree that it is best to display a msg clarifying limitation rather than allow vacillating data. The 5 or 6 seconds wait, which seem longer, surprises me in this day and age, though.

The Barryvox Element, is a clean looking unit. I'll check it out. Thanks
