Depends on which day and the snowfall.  It was open Wed, Thurs (nice skiing :-)), and today; it is snowing now at 2000 ft asl, pretty heavy, but the forecast is for showers.  If snowfall exceeds 6+ inches, expect a delayed opening; if it exceed 10+ inches expect a very delayed opening; if high avalanche danger is forecast, expect a closure.

Hints: check the webcam pictures on Amar's site to see how plowing is going; check the Mt. R. recreational forecast for the best weather forecast for Paradise; check the NWAC avy forecast for avy danger; NWAC for actual snowfall and winds, and NWAC mtn weather forecast for freezing levels, wind, and the amount of precipitation (roughly X12 = snow) predicted; then call 306-569-2211 ext. 112 to get the road status.

My rule of thumb for Longmire gate openings is (at least) one hour past 8AM for every 3" new snow.

Today was a fine powder day, better than yesterday.  There has been a tremendous amount of wind-driven snow deposition  this week.  The cornices are about as large as I can ever remember them.  Every slope I've been on has had a denser layer of wind-packed powder over less dense snow; on especially wind exposed slopes, there seem to be multiple density difference layers.  This is about a foot down on the W side of Mazama Ridge, two feet or more in the east-facing 'back bowl'.

Stay safe out there...  Large slides are definitely possible, especially on steep sun-exposed terrain
