Interesting.... I know a number of ski hills close long before the snow melts due to a drop or expected drop in ticket sales as other seasons such as golf season begin to overlap. Will but curious to see what happens.
I was just thinking about Crystal-fest. I was rather involved for a couple of years and was totally uninvolved last year. I think Crystal-fest has been great fun, and has by a fairly fluid event and the "as we know it" part is very much in constant flux. I hope real life T-A-Y community events continue in some form and am looking forward to seeing whatever form they take. Crystal has been a great venue/host in the past.
We have a number of other "-fests" that have their own attendance and nature, including the slushcup, opening of Chinook, HWY 20 and Sunrise. I love the smell of springtime in the mountains!

Yes I did, thank you......
Seems Pete A got caught in the dreaded "quoted before I deleted the post" syndrome that can catch those that have second thoughts about their posts.

yeah... i looked on Crystal's site and saw the expanded spring season...figured they must've found a way around the elk migration issue.  .....and i've been self-deleting posts for a long time...nothing new for me :)

Everybody seems to have a different story for why the resorts close with plenty of snow:
1. A ton of the employees are from other countries and need to go home, or move on to other seasonal jobs
2. Only season passholders who don't spend money on ancillary services show up so they don't make any money
3. USFS makes them close (elk migration fits in this bucket)
4. The snow is too sticky (you laugh, but I've heard this 3x riding Alpy lifts)

Anyone know the real answer?

lmao on the sticky snow!

But yes, bottom part was very sticky last Crystal Fest, and not because of anything I may or may not have imbibed

Cheers
Ivo

ps I was also told it's 'political' - w/ leases and such

Phhhhhhhhh.
Total rubbish .. it's got nothing to do with leases or elk or sticky snow.

Everybody knows the real reason is that the ski are owner after sucking our pockets dry and amassing a fortune on par with a Wall Street hedge fund manager needs to head to the south of France for spring break in Cannes with their new Lamborghini and  super yacht and then get ready for summer in the Hamptons. ;)

From Scotsman: "I believe that only the gondola and GV lift will operational"

Crystal Fest can live on then... As you all know, Crystal Fest is held in Campbell basin.

So the human powered elite, can still congregate unencumbered by the lift served glutants! Long live TAY Crystal Fest!

PS. Scotsman, would you mind traversing over from Green valley with the keg this year? Oh, anduhhh... see if any of those scantily clad euro-type ski bunnies want to tag along. Just tell 'em there are some rippin' telemerk studs on the other side of the ridge.
