Thought I'd share some good vibes.

Just wanna give props to this thread for inspiration and advice how to get the pup out skiing:

Happy to report we had a great time and she did well. Thanks to all!

Nice. We have great memories of skis with our ex-dogs. Our current pooch has hip/knee issues so he only gets out for ski tours when we have really good top-to-bottom consolidation (spring or when we have a big rain crust covered by dust in midwinter) - and he LOVES it then. Our prior pooch Max (yeah, the most common dog name) would get super worked up as he sensed us getting ready for a descent after summit breaks.

In fact those photos remind me of tours we did early on with them up Hex.

Watch the postholing on deep snow days and the sharp ski edges!! Most dogs will try to follow you no matter what...

Awesome Matt -- I recalibrate my ski goals more frequently now based on the desire to bring the pup along, since she loves it so much. Glad you had a good first tour.

Jim's on it re: postholing -- the snowpack we have right now was very hard for "big boy Tundra" on Saturday. The new skin track wasn't firm enough to keep him from sinking to his shoulders pretty frequently, so I peeled off and had emergency snow shelter practice with the dogs while my human ski partners took another lap.

I have to start calibrating on my snow dog's age, finally.  Sadly, I've got to be careful on the deep powder days.

And another caution: Coming down from a long day at Yodelin last Sunday, she followed us through some steep, small trees.  When we got to the bottom, she wasn't following us anymore, and was heard yelping halfway up the hill.  We had to put on the skins, hike back up and zero in on her.  We followed her down track to a hole, and found her about 5 feet down.  We then had to dig a lateral tunnel in to her so she could crawl out.  I knew she was getting tired at the end of the day, so it would have been wiser to take a more conservative path down, for her sake.  Next time.  Happy ending, though, and one tired 9 year old dog that night at home.
