n00b question was created by willy
my friend just sold me his skis. they've been drilled once for dynafit bindings (what i use) and he wears a 28.5. i wear a 29.5. will the bindings still mount or will the screw holes be too close together? thanks!

did you try adjusting the bindings to fit? what may happen is that you may have to mount a bit forward (easier turn initiation) or back of traditional alpine mount. are the skis the right length? a bit too long or too short will determine your decision.

thanks for the reply. haven't tried adjusting the bindings to fit. the skis are the right length for my height, weight, ability and preferred terrain.

There's a chance you won't have to drill at all. Comforts/Verticals have ~10mm of adjustment room, mondo point sizing is in centimeters, and boot sole lengths vary between manufacturers/models. You can try attaching the binding pieces to the boot (with correct heel spacing) and seeing if you can adjust the heel travel to make all the holes (toe and heel) line up.

In the event that miracle doesn't occur, you might consider re-using the toe holes and just drilling for the heel? More experienced folks will know better, but I think the adage is 1cm spacing between drilled holes?

If you redrill everything, I'd bet the holes will be mighty close together.

G'luck!

Mount the bindings using the old holes and see if you can get your boots to fit. Boot sole lengths vary a lot between different manufacturers and models of boots; a 29.5 mondo in one boot could actually be shorter than a 28.5 mondo in another. Dynafit toe socket position also varies with boot model(s).

Depending on which model of Dynafit bindings you have you could have very little range of adjustment (Speed/Classic) or a fair amount (Comfort/ST/FT) - it also depends on where on the adjustment track the heel was located to fit the old boot.

If you have to redrill, just move the heelpiece; traditional rule of thumb is to leave 1cm of space between centers of holes. It is probably a good idea to fill the old holes with epoxy and either glass fibers or steel wool.
