Be careful what you wish for.
I introduced my son to BC skiing, rock climbing and mountaineering and early on he didn't have the mental stamina for long tours but gradually as his strength increased and skill level progressed he became pretty good and more ambitious.
Now he's 19 and in college and making plans to try and ski Rainier and wants to do some mixed ice/rock alpine climbing etc, and it scares me!
We have discussions about the risks involved and like any dad I point out the dangers and consequences of skiing in fall you die ski terrain and the importance of a long apprenticeship and patience when it comes to "going for it".
Like most 19 year olds I suspect, he says " don't worry dad, I'll be fine. "
I still worry though and more so now since I no longer have the ultimate decision to stop him from going on something I consider too risky or ambitious for his age and skill.
I'm glad he took to the sport as skiing with him is still MY best day in the mountains.

She has already skied Rainier (as an embryo). My wife was pregnant when we skied the Emmons. She didn't know at the time and I kept telling her to quit complaining that she was tired - "Rainier is always this hard".
