Dynafit Headache- no skis for three weeks!? Help!

Hey folks,

I'm relatively new to Dynafit but was handed down a pair of TLTs that I couldn't resist. Asked to have them adjusted to accommodate my larger boot size and was told that something was broken inside the rear piece of both bindings.

Sounds like it's the screw adjustment on the back of the unit (that would adjust vertical release pressure). Word was... they were stripped completely.

That's all well and good- seems reasonable I guess. However, it sounds like I'll be without them for 2-3 weeks while parts are ordered. From what I can tell, the only strippable components are the screw/bolt you use to adjust and the square nut it threads into.... Do those really strip and if so- can that really be that hard to track down?

3 weeks seems like an awfully long time- any ideas from you Dynafit experts??

Thanks!

Take the heels apart following the instructions here:

www.wildsnow.com/articles/dynafit_faq/heel-breakdown.html

Be sure to follow the instruction re: backing off the DIN setting and going one turn more, otherwise parts will fly everywhere when you take the top plate off.

Then determine what the problem is and take a digital picture of it. If the problem is indeed the forward/vertical release screw, it can and does strip (usually the tiny square nut it goes into, not the screw).

If it is the fore/aft adjustment screw, it is usually where the bottom screw goes into the pivot post that the heel sits on top of. This is also known to happen.

Send the pics and an explanation to Sarah Anawalt:

sarah.anawalt@salewa.com

Depending on the age of the binding, Salewa will charge you for the shipping and/or the part. Doesn't hurt to check bushing wear and clean/regrease while you've got them apart.

Good luck!

PS  If you live in Seattle I have one spare screw and one spare nut you can have as long as you replace them eventually. PM me here or e-mail gclouie-at-Gee-mail-daht-kahm

I agree with Greg. I've done that before, strip the +/- screw. Just an FYI. Everything just needs to be tightened till snug, be careful not to put the Jersey Joe extra turn on everything Dynafit or you will have troubles. My rule is if there is resistance when screwing anything on my Dynafits, STOP analyze it, possibly back it out and start again if the screws are not all the way down.
You could be up and going in a couple days.
Salewa is fast to get parts out to you.
Nice offer Greg, maybe even Marmot Bellevue has them in their bucket of parts. Ask for Issak he has got a good handle on it.

Great, thanks a ton guys.

I emailed Sarah and will give Issak a call just in case. And thank you very much for your offer Greg. Had it been just one of them I absolutely would have taken you up on it. Would have replaced them, of course, with a beer or two thrown in for good measure!
