ski leashes was created by eric
If you're the person I spoke with on Saturday at Pro Ski about ski leashes, here's what I was talking about. If you're not, carry on...

Speaking of ski leashes, obviously if I'm relying on just ski brakes on a steep incline I could have to chase a ski for a couple thousand feet. However, with a ski leash there's the added danger in an avalanche, not just by getting knocked out by your ski flopping around but also more likely you might be buried deeper by not being able to "swim" and stay towards the top (one safety tip points out to unbuckly your pack in avy terrain so you can jettison it in an avalance.
Thoughts?
Something I was going to research and I happened to see your post. Tradeoffs I guess. thx.

Then again, maybe with AT skis / bindings you don't have ski brakes, thinking of my downhill ski's I'll be taking.

I heard if you attach the leash to your binding with a large (size unspecified...) zip tie it will stay with you if you fall but will break away if being tossed around in an avalanche.
I haven't tried it because I am not a fan of having an out of control ski attached to me if it comes off, but there is something to be said about being able to quickly clean up your yardsale when in avalanche terrain..
Ideas, thoughts?

This is pretty much the system I use with my older tele gear (7TM power-tours). I did a rough load test with a bunch of zip ties to find something that broke at 40 or 50 pounds.
