I'm surprised no one has posted this- www.nwac.us/media/uploads/pdfs/FOAC_2010_Annual_Rpt.pdf
It's not a secret.

FWIW, I have no problem with public funding of NWAC, I just don't find it all that useful for where I ski.

No, I won't be there JDC.

However, rest assured I have done my bit to fund the NWAC alebit behind the scenes and without fanfare and will continue to do so.

Thanks for the budget.
Very telling isn't it. ;)
FOAC and private donations are very very small. Obviously other than going to the snowbash at the Tractor tavern and hoping for free swaaag... BC skiers are all talk and no wallet.

Commercial groups "payments" very small.
It seems that all that use it, be it ski area or private person wants the taxpayer to do the heavy lifting.
If it's that valuable to commercial ski areas, why doesn't NWAC charge them more???

I've no interest in discussing that here, but maybe others would like to engage.

It seems to me to be the essence of the question and entirely relevant when a thread asking for contrived testimonials( and please.... don't try and say RonJ's isn't contrived as you'll just embarrass yourself) is posted to garner support for continued public funding and lobbying legislators.
But as you say ... if you have no interest , then bugger off and don't engage.

Why would pro patrollers/guides with Ski Operations Avalanche Forecasting certification who are out in the snow in their ski areas everyday doing stability testing and evaluation need NWAC's broad regional hazard forecasts from someone sitting at a desk 100 miles away who has most likely not been in the field in that area?

Dead on Aaron.
I suspect that NWAC has a far higher opinion as to the value of their service than some other experienced skiers that follow the weather patterns and snow conditons in their given area .
The caveat to that is that when going to a new area , they can be very useful, initially.

Aaron my man, we are in complete agreement here. ;D
I think Ski areas rely upon their own asssesment as do heli/hut operators.
It's an intersting question... does WADOT rely upon it for pass closure and avy control...... I doubt it but am interested to get the answer..... Stimbuck, paging Stimbuck..

Ski patrols communicate continually with NWAC on conditions and give input on snow and weather conditions, I may be wrong but I think many of the local ski areas do contribute money to NWAC
