where is good on mt Rainier? was created by skibum
I am wanting to get up to mt Rainier in the next couple weeks to do a little ski touring. I have never ski toured up there at all, so i am wondering if you knowledgeable folks of TAY can give me some advice on where to go and what is some decent touring options for Rainier. Thanks, Jack.

Most days the skiing is best down low. On dumper days and higher risk avy days I almost always elect to lap the various shots around Paradise. Skiing down the road to fourth crossing and ascending up Mazama Ridge or the upper Paradise River area provides lots of good turns. Chances are you wont be alone and tracks will be obvious. If you are more adventurous and more risky on avy danger days the Tatoosh hold many a great line, but would advise to save it for stable conditions. Obviously skinning to Muir, Pan Point, and points higher are great options in clear weather, but generally dont yiel fun turns, imho, until corn season. There are lots of options for differing conditions and desires. Ski mountaineering is great too up around the turtle, furher finger etc...I love Rainier. Hope that helps!

Thanks alpymarr! I think i will ski around the Mazama Ridge my first time up there. Sounds like a relatively easy skin and some nice turns.
