Amar, those charts are totally bogus BTW and represent a small sample size.  My eldest whos 4 has been off the charts around 105% for weight/height since he was 1.

The charts may or may not properly reflect the general population of US children well, I have no idea. They certainly do give a great deal of useful insight into growth patterns, and I'd find them useful if/when I become a first-time parent. A quick search www.google.com/search?q=growth+chart+cdc+sample+size shows that CDC claims a "large sample size in these surveys", while other sources say the WHO charts are better than CDC, . . .

However, it is impossible for anyone to be "off the charts" on a percentile chart. The absolute mathematical maximum is the 100th percentile, there is no way to be any higher value (lots of people can be 105% of normal, but no one can be in the 105th percentile -- note that % and %ile are very different things). The hypothetical 100th percentile would be the largest child ever recorded. The reason the charts are only drawn up to the 97th percentile (and down to the 3rd percentile) is that data are not reliable farther out in the tails of the distribution.

Not trying to argue, just stating what can and can not be.

alright now for the most boring trip report ever (seriously):

took the tot tubing, first shift right at 9am. All went fine but peak speeds might be 20-25 mph . . .

Glad it worked out well for both of you!

Believe me, your fantasy of how fun it would be won’t match the reality of it when you’re done.

Been there, done that, don’t recommend it.

I took my daughter to Hyak at approximately 20 months and she seemed to love it - as did Dad. I did splurge on a tube (versus a sled), from LL Bean for about $100, which is awesome at the public hill. I rode with her the first year; the tube helps buffer the inevitable collisions due to folks who get to the bottom and dawdle as if there weren't others (without the ability to steer) ripping right towards them. Many toddlers and some older kids get wiped out repeatedly. My little girl is pretty well padded in the big tube, and it runs faster than most of the sleds.

I started shoving her off solo and running behind the tube -- again, it felt pretty safe given she was packed inside the tube.

The goal is to start getting out there with them as early and often as possible!
