The best backcountry skiers I know are also all confirmed lift skiers, and coincidentally have quivers to cover both pastimes. The payoff lies in being able to ski the most horrific BC conditions they encounter after logging all those miles on the lifts . . .

Most of the really dedicated skiers I know ski BC/SC and Lifts in the same day and get 3 Bc/SC runs and about 10-12 lift runs aswell, plus have 80+ days. All for a $600 season pass! Most carpool whenever possible and recognize that one ski will never cover all the conditions in the PNW and therefore have a quiver.
Try doing the math on that.

Ouch Greg!
I remember seeing a comparison in $ per run in a past ski-type magazine. The article indicated lift skiing was the most economical per vertical foot. Of course then there is always the comparison of quantity vs. quality per vertical foot.

Plagerized and altered from a speech by one of my heros.
I have a dream that one day this website will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all skiers are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the white hills of Washington, the sons of former dentists and the sons of former skinny ski owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even TAY, a website sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my son will one day ski in a nation where they will not be judged by the size of their skis or where they ski or how they ski but by the content of their character.
Edit to add :original speech for the record.
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
