Glidelite skins: mohair mix or nylon? was created by Paulina
Another skins question:
Why did BD switch from nylon Glidelites to mohair and mohair mix? If you have experience in both types, which would you recommend? I don't think I'll be climbing all that steep, and I love the way my old nylon cowprint Glidelites work. For a fat (110mm underfoot) pair of skis, should I go mohair mix, or pick up one of those old nylon skins with a funky print on them?
Thanks for any words of wisdom!

Probably bowing to pressure from their European customers to re-institute mohair into the lineup - it's a much bigger market than here, though the US is catching up. All-nylon orange Ascensions are still available, but they're a little bulkier than the cowhide print ones.
I've been using the mohair-mix BD for more than a season as my go-to skin on my most-used touring skis, and have found nothing to complain about. Before that I had several sets of purple Ascensions that also worked fine for years, though the glide wasn't quite as good.
Edit to add: Steep climbing on slippery skintracks is the best reason for preferring all-nylon skins; if you don't do it you may as well get a little better glide and add mo mohair.
