Freezing rain at Snoqualmie 12/28, how far east? was created by Splitter
I was at Alpental Sat 12/28. Instead of powder there was a crust over 6 inches of powder all the way to the top of chair 2. About 3/4 inch with almost the top 1/4 inch being water ice. It sounds like Crystal and Stevens were spared, does anyone have info further east from Alpental? Did Hyak get it too?

Hyak and all of Snoqualmie was getting rained on Monday night after about 5" of snow when we were suppose to get 14" of snow. This morning it was 26 degrees and snowing and when I left for work there was around 3" new with 8" forecast over the crust snow. Not sure how much fell through the day.

the crust was so bad people were leaving alpental to ski at central and west today. i was teaching at central today and rode the lift with 1 guy that told me he left alpy because of the crust. my girlfriend rode the lift with another group that said the same.
good news is it didn't stop snowing during the 7 hours we spent there today and it was still coming down when we left. we had 4-5 inches new on the car, and there was about that much on top of the crust when we got there. even though the crust is getting buried, the wind was blowing too. so in some places it will still be extremely scratchy, others possibly 'bottomless'.

Alpy was quite good on Sunday imo. Get some heavy powder among the trees, and the iced up sections on the runs were pretty manageable. I can imagine that the same conditions could be less fun, depending on one's ride though. I was on Raptor
(Sat was not 28th, btw)
Tuesday night we went to Central: definite crust + wind. However, crust was not extremely hard, and it kept snowing. Wasn't able to go today, but since it kind of snowed in Bellevue, I expect there's more fresh on the hills
