Waxless skis for BC (i.e. Karhu vs. Alpina)

I tried a pair of the Alpine Cross Terrain skis with excursions and chilies this weekend. They are the best CLIMBING waxless touring ski I have tried. I typically ski the Karhu Tenth Mountain with pins and excursions. The Alpina climbs much better. It is light, has generous sidecut, turns easily..and glides well in the track. A good ski to pair with leathers or light plastic with a three pin binding with or without cables.

So yes, you sacrifice some glide compared to a wax ski. But, these skis are well worth it for variable Northwest skiing conditions. Sometimes I like the convenience of not having to apply skins, glop, kick wax....etc. Bring along a bottle of maxi glide or liquid teflon for the sticky stuff.

that's my favorite setup of the pattern base boards - 3 pin on Alpina Cross Terrains - light, quick, climbs and turns great.  I take 'em to the resort sometimes with T-1s and bash moguls.  And they're surprisingly adept in powder - if you don't mind riding in it...

My buddy has a pair of those Alpina Cross Terrains.
He has NNN on them and used them on our three day tour of the Sourdough Mountain range from Buck Creek to White River campground. They seemed to work pretty good on the rolling terrain. One of his boots blew out the heel on the 1st day, but McGyver work made the boot work and finished the tour.
The ski a a little stiff for my liking, but works pretty good.

Another review for the BC125 .  Sounds pretty good, so far.

Good to hear, since I just got back from a trip to my local shop to buy a pair :)

I need to get my boots molded, but I picked up the TLT Performance boots and Speed binding. Not sure of the total final weight for boot, binding, ski, but I estimate it should be about 13 pounds or so? Seems pretty rad.

I'll let you guys know what I think once I get these bad boys out on some snow!

Cheers,
Erik

I have just set up and skied on three days X-terrains with Silveretta Easy Go AT bindings .  I ran them without any type of wax and eventually had to add some Dakine Afterburner, this was in the relatively drier snow up at Scottish Lakes High Camp. Next outting I'm going to hot wax the glide zones and see what happens. For longer climbs though have some skins, but for rolling terrain the pattern base works great.  They turn great, just a little lateral pressure and off they go.  I really have these set up for spring corn and longer spring / summer tours with leather mountaineering boots.
But again I am really satisfied with there performance.
