Heli-Skiing - Recommendations? was created by SkiMariner
My wonderful wife is treating me to a 40th B-day heli-ski trip and I would appreciate what anyone has to say about their experiences at the N. Cascade or Whistler operations.  Thnx!

Lucky!
North Cascades Heli twice , once full day heli, next three day heli -touring. Terrain is magnificent, guides great and Shaemus( sic?) the pilot is one cool cat. Loved the Heli-barn vibe before and after.

Haven't done the heli ops with them but Larry Goldie with NCMG is a great guy and fun to hang out with

There are some really lame heli options available out of Whistler. Some very good. Research carefully if you go that route. Search TGR for a recent thread.

North Cascade Heli are nice folks and deliver excellent value for money.

The key with this is who you end up being in a group with. Going on your own it's just a crapshoot.

Brit's right.
If you get unlucky and get the dentist and his trophy wife from Altanta dressed in Bologner who only want low angled meadow skipping you are toast.
Talk to NCH about it and see if you can get in with a group who they know and match your skiing ability.
Jeff Ward who just posted in Trip Reports ( WA pass) is one of the NCH guides and should be able to help you if you PM him.
He was our guide and is great.

I really can't say enough good things about NCH. A group of friends and I did a three-day trip there last February. Despite a lack of recent dumpage the NCH guides had no problem finding plenty of fresh, deep lines for the entire time.

Here's more pics than you'd ever care to see.

In terms of cost NCH charges by the bump. I think the three-day package allows you to have 27 bumps (9 runs per day). You can buy additional bumps for approx $75 bucks a bump if I recall correctly. Anyway, I was with a pretty aggressive group and we were pushing a dozen bumps a day so we ended up paying several hundred bucks over the base package price (it was worth every penny).

NCH has a rock solid, experienced crew of guides and a great pilot (Seamus). Just give them a call and tell them what your skill level is and they will hook you up with a similarly skilled crew.
