That would be one data point, unless I know someone well I observe them closely when touring with them.Well, I said from the start that it wasn't logical. Having never looked too deeply into the manufacturer's recommendations, I changed at 80% because it was prudent and couldn't hurt (plus, I have other non-critical things that use batteries).
Given the info that's been presented here, I'll probably have more tolerance to go lower, but you're really going to second guess my entire decision making process based on the fact that I'm too conservative with putting new batteries in my beacon? That makes no sense to me. It's an awfully thin piece of data to build such a broad conclusion on, don't you think?

Sure, okay. I guess my point is that it's like judging someone's ability to keep the car on the road based on whether they fill up the tank before leaving town.

Actually, if you were to use my reasoning, you wouldn't hold it against someone if they knew they had enough gas to finish the drive and get home. My point is that if someone is making decisions based on emotion, I would be suspect of all their decisions until they proved otherwise.Sure, okay. I just passed a guy in nose to tail traffic on i90 who was schlepping up the shoulder in the blizzard carrying his gas can.
Probably the heavy traffic and time spent idling that messed up the mileage calculations?
I bet he was somewhat "emotional"?
Hope you didn't wear good shoes today

We use 50% as a rule of thumb at the WSDOT and in the avalanche classes that I teach.$
I think is a very sensible policy, and I'm going to adopt it.
