While the correlations has all been in fun, might it mean something? With at least two rains heavy enough this summer (prior to September) to wet forest mineral soil, the pattern is unusual of late. I collected a few shrooms in August, and now while plentiful, many are in stages of decay while a new flush comes up nearby. This correlates to this seasons' rain pattern to date. Farmers Almanac and NOAA are in disagreement, and the Blob is still nearby. I'm going to speculate that ski zones subject to coastal influence will see on and off again coverage in the lower bands. Elevation will matter, so go high or go dry.
Oh.., I'll be happy to be wrong..Â

I'm currently devouring a bowl of delicious Chantelle soup and contemplating where to go to find a little fresh this week so things are looking pretty good from my (zero science) perspective. I was up in the 5k zone in the Chiwakum area this morning and it sure did not seem like summer anymore 😉

A known local area had been picked - lots of cut stalk ends and holes in the moss and needles but found a few pounds of Chantrelles by wandering around. Had a good rain event and maybe another blush on the way? I've seen some lobsters and coral fungi that I was late to so they were earlier than last few years. No Oysters or Boletes yet.... Another damp fall, fungi a-growin - snow for the hills, soon will be blowin .

No science needed to get stoked on mushrooms and snow.
I've found some nice Porcini on my hikes, but also a lot of wormy ones that were left behind to spread their spores.
It snowed at Muir as you must've noticed.... and it's still snowing in Chile, where I'm headed in 1.5 weeks! Will report back on volcano/mushroom situation when I'm there.
