Sierra's-first snow *

- expecting 6-12", just over the highest terrain. This aftn, NWS has issued a Winter storm warn for Yosemite area south. I guess winter has started down here.

I dont think you can get any pics, as it's pretty socked in right now. Try Mammoth mtn's webcams. Lake Tahoe resorts are too low in elevation.

it snowed in the Sierras on August 29th and September 8th

(when thru hiking the John Muir Trail in running shoes during a snowstorm, one tends to remember specific dates and oddball weather)

yaa, it can definitely put down some white, either hail or snow in the summer (10,000'). I think the weather guys consider fall to be the start of winter weather (unless we get a heat wave like we just had). Thanks for the stats - I prefer the light hikers, but I'm not a runner. * *
