Ahh...Just the comparison I was looking for.
Do you notice that when you ski the 4's in the winter that they are pretty stiff, and when you ski them in the spring warmer weather that they lose a little of their power due to the pu getting softer? Do they feel more comfortable in the spring than in the winter due to temps effecting the stiffness of the boot? Compared to a Pebax that is less effected by the temp swings?
I don't think it got cold enough here last winter to really effect a change in stiffness (but I only skied 72 days). I started off using the 3s (Pebax), but in the deeper, heavier snow I always felt more comfortable with the 4s (PU), maybe because they flex upwards well in response to the the rockered ski climbing out of the snow but still provide good lateral support; so I just kept wearing them thru July. I skied mostly on 187 Manaslus which don't require a lot of power; in the summer I skied my 7 summits a bit and kind of felt that the 4s were over powering them (even tho I ski with buckles fairly loose and that that boot is what is recommended for the summits). The 178 summits just turn so easily, quickly, and nicely in the corn. The 4s have always been comfortable (I have custom footbeds and Dynafit TF liners in them); in the 3s I have the MF liners and the boot always seems a little stiff for my taste.
