So glad that Stefan, after raising alarms about unsafe climbing ranger staffing levels and the resulting necessity to raise the climbing fee, finds screwing with a completely unnecessary webcam as the most important thing for him to personally do.

If they are so terribly strapped for funding, they should be looking at how to reduce infrastructure and its associated overhead instead of increasing it.

Hummm... not sure I agree with that assessment, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion.
I, for one, find the existence of a cam at 10,000 ft MSL to be exceedingly useful for all sorts of trip planning, including assessing tops of clouds, incoming weather and snowfield surface conditions among other things. I find myself referring to the Muir cam now much more than the others and appreciate it more now that the date/time stamp is more reliable. I appreciate them making it a priority.

I had hope the upside down globe design would keep the lense clear in the winter, but the recent rain/snow event this week confirmed that it won't. I suspect the whole tower will become rimed most of the winter and there will be no view. Maybe if the sun comes out for a few days it will melt off. I hope so as it would be a nice winter view.

The optimist in me hopes that investments in information and education can pay off in lower search and rescue and medical expenses in the future.
