Do Boot turns count? was created by davidG
If you leave both feet on the snow? Legit change in direction, pole plant, lead change, turn, repeat..? A visiting colleague from Norway (Telemark!) has never been above 2000m (skiing in Norway begins near sea level and rarely exceeds 1000m), so day hiked, yesterday, following the mule train toward Muir but broke off early. Plenty of pitches and patches to to work on your boot turns on the way down. Since he had plenty of gas left (no sir, not that kind..), we ran over to Reflection Lake and scrambled the Pinnacle trail - needed a bit of the wall beyond the Pass to clear 2000m for the second time that day, but didn't get a look at that darn tarn - sorry.
Had a moral obligation to ask..

Ask Lowel Skoog?
Via private message might be tactful?
Edit: Unless you were turning on boots (WTF?) somewhere where if you'd fallen you'd have died.

Were they telemark turns or alpine turns? Because I think telemark turns count!

and boot teles work pretty well (the rear toe is your rudder, carve on the inside edge of the foward foot Duh), but I'd say calling it skiing when we have no boards on our feet is A SLIPPERY SLOPE.
There's a reason we don't hike for turns carrying cafeteria trays on our back, right? I mean, follow this logic and you could open your freezer door at midnight, do an urban-wall-walk-turn on your ice tray, and call it turns for 2 months.
And think of all the other boot turns! side-step, herringbone, kick turn, stem christie, yard sale...these boots were made for SKIING
