I prefer using shorts, for summer conditions

Just your run of the mill GoreTex proshell Lederhosen to keep the liquid off my shorts when dropping a knee at cornfession, lined with Microfleece to keep chaffing to a minimum. Also, The shoulder straps have summer flowers of the Northwest embroidered on them. As an added feature I have thermo quilted water bottle holders on each hip, so a cold drink is only a quick draw away. The clincher is the dehydration catheter bladder attached to the right pant leg so I never have to stop to relieve myself while on long summer hauls.

I made the mistake of trying out shorts on the Palmer Lift a few summers ago- a brief hip-check, with (salt treated?) icy snow = a huge bloody mess. Not recommended!

There are alternatives to both pants or shorts you know.
