Snow Spiders - South Sister?

Can anyone explain the reason why there are so many spiders hanging out on snow around South Sister?

wow, had a pic here for a while of wolfsize spider fighting two skiiers lashing at it with their poles, but, it's gone now... man, that makes me 0 for 2 lately...
