Down in the Sierra's, it's possible for me to do 1 complete yr ! Oct. had very skiable snow which even 'corned up'. Aug is doable on Shasta, so Sept will be the crux. How many turns is necessary for a valid run ? cheers

Hey All,
If you read a few of the TAYers' bios, you'll find they're all over the board for what "counts". My criteria is pretty loose - if I've earned it in any fashion, then it counts, no matter how many turns or how much vertical. The other side of that coin for me is that if I've earned it (by climbing up with the stupid things on my back in September) then I'm going to try and get a fair amount of fun out of the deal.

Here's the bio page. www.turns-all-year.com/indexyrs.html

Good luck! My year always ends in October, usually (and hopefully) on a light drift of fresh snow near Paradise.

It's more of a personal choice than a set standard. My goal is 1000' of vertical. There have been months were I have had to do five laps on a small patch to get it, but that is my goal.

My criteria is identical to Snowdawg's - 1,000 feet of turns. Doesn't matter how you get them though!

For my 30 months so far: I also make sure to get 1000' and while I'd prefer to earn it by gaining elevation under human power (does not matter how many laps, could be the same patch mutiple times in September), I have settled a couple of times for lift-served while taking my daughter, fun but earned in a different way especially when she was smaller.

Of course, since it's your individual accomplishment you can count it any way you want; I think the only real requirement is to be clear what you count if anyone ever cares.

Gordon on the Home Page says it's 2 hours of skiing. That can either be lots of turns, or doing
almost nothing with skis on your feet. He did it on just a few meters once; awesome.
I say if you are sliding with planks on, you've skied. Some of my shortest vert---July, September, October---took far more effort than 10,000s' of lift-served. And what about those hardcores who kept their streak going by ripping on sand dunes? Is anyone DQing them for lack of quantity???
Get your September goods wherever, and then celebrate. In the end we are all dust anyway. ;D
