Was wondering what conditions up there are like. Corn? Wind hammered sastrugi? Re-frozen hardpack? Combination of all three?
Was thinking of heading there tomorrow but mediocre Hood conditions today that weren't as warm or smooth as I'd hoped have started to convince me otherwise.

my buddy was up there on friday, topped out at about noon and skied at about 1. Did not fall in the crater.
He said there was good skiing, but wouldn't have wanted to be any later. Also, I think the nights are colder right now then they were on friday. They drove to the parking lot and boot packed the whole way due to crusty/unbreakable/slippery skinning conditions. Everything softened well for the descent though.

skied st. helen's today. waited thinking today would be the warmest of the three sunny days in a row.
firm snow all the way to my artificial turn around time. very firm from summit to about 7000 where it began to soften a bit. another 500 feet lower and things started to corn up very nicely.
continuous skiable snow to w/in about 300 vertical and 20 minutes of the parking lot.
saw only one other skier.
cheers
