Blewett protocol? was created by ryanjv1
I had a couple of solo hours to kill, so I drove up Blewett to get the lay of the land before a planned upcoming tour. I parked at the Sno-Park at the summit near the Discovery Trailhead with a gazillion snomobilers and several other human powered crews. As I was gearing up, a snomobiler came tearing by and started loudly and crassly complaining about a skier's car parked near his rig so that he couldn't just drive the machine up the ramp. Evidently, according to this genius, all BC skiers are homosexuals (which is apparently a horrible thing). I didn't know this. My wife's gonna be pissed...
Anyway, I was wondering if he had a point (about the parking, not the sexual orientation) since it was my first time up there. Is there some agreement that XC/BC/snowshoers should park somewhere else? There's enough tension between the humans and the machines without fanning flames with poor parking.

this GREAT post!
Think of all the pedestrians postholing in your skin track. They are not mean or bad, they just ingnorant of your values. Have you ever had angry thoughts towards them?
this provides great insight into the the snow machiners.

Sled riders like to park their rigs with enough spacing so that they can drive their sleds back onto the trailers.
Slipping in the slot between rigs and blocking such access creates conflict and bad blood between sleds and skiiers.
So try to find a spot where you won't interfere with reloading their sleds.
FWIW: There are three additional small skiier only parking areas about 1/2 mile North of Blewett pass -- two located on the south/east side and one located on the north/west side of Highway 97. The two on the south/east are small -- room for maybe 1/2 dozen cars each -- the one on the otherside has room for maybe a dozen cars. These areas are well positioned for Diamond Head, Tronsen Head and Tronsen meadows.
These areas aren't official "sno-parks" -- so no sno-park permit is required -- but in periods of heavy snow fall you might have to do some manual shoveling.

I avoid parking at the summit lots for just this reason, though more good interactions between sledders and skiers would definitely be good. The crass remark says more about that particular guy than it does about sledders in general. I've had good experiences with far more sledders, but it only takes one to spoil the impression for a lot of people. Same goes with skiers.
And yeah, the Tronsen parking is much better, though far smaller. That side of the pass is all unmotorized.

Thanks for the info. I'll park in those other lots from now on. I probably should have gone over and talked to the guy. It would have gone a long way for his opinions. He seemed pretty worked up, though.
The summit lots were jammed and there were many rigs blocking other rigs as well. So the guy had to pull into the turn-around to load... doesn't seem like that huge an inconvenience. But I guess I'm just a little more mellow. OTOH, I do hate it when someone parks so close to my car I can't open the door.

Ski tourers = Gays
Sledders = True American Manly Men
Sled assisted ski touring = True American Gays? Manly Gays? Or do the two cancel out and they are motorized androgynous outdoors persons?
It's so confusing...
