Recommendations for a Hood tour? was created by crystal_mt_dreamin
A buddy of mine got a cabin at Gov't Camp this weekend to look at hosting their wedding at (yaaawn). I'd like to bring him out for an easy tour as he hasn't been out since he took avy 1 last spring. Any recommendations for some tours in the area/within a short drive? I haven't done anything non-resort in the Hood area before. Thx.

Dude, hope you're OK.
Sorry I can't answer your question, but for a second this morning I thought TAY had really turned a corner as the topic list for Random Tracks showed this one as:
"Recommendations for a Ho...."

There are two trails (Glade and Alpine) that take you from Government Camp to the Timberline resort; Alpine is steeper and better for the return. Glade starts from the deadend road next to the Cascade Lodge and goes up from there; nothing too exciting on the down but beautiful scenery. The guide - Backcountry Ski Oregon - has quite a few tours in the Government Camp area, but be careful this time of year as the weather can turn nasty in a heart beat higher up on Hood.
You can also just drive up to Timberline Lodge and start skinning up towards the Palmer (staying out of the ski resort of course); it can get a bit monotonous, but it's a good place to stretch your legs.
Hope this helps
