Help...Binding Position on K2 Coombas was created by Skookum
I recently picked up a pair of 2008/2009 K2 Coombas (174cm). I will be mounting Marker Barons on them and have heard some interesting ideas regarding binding placement. In a number of blogs I have found people writing about mounting them 2cm forward and referring to some K2 published list that I cannot find. Does anyone have an idea if this 2cm forward of the factory "boot center" mark holds true when mounting an AT set-up? To be honest I'm thinking I might not even notice the difference but thought I would ask around. Thanks!

Forward for more of a carving race type setup (hardpack), back for powder. Boot center on those is spot on for AT (bit of both).

Great skis!

The first generation Coombas ski marking needed to be moved forward 2cm. But I think the new generation figured that out and has it placed properly on the ski.
Some of this depends on the type of boot you are going to be driving the ski with.
I find that my softer boots (mega-ride) have a much more difficult time steering a fatter ski. SO a little more forward may help if the boots are softer. But if you are using it more on piste with stiffer boots with some off piste forages. I would stick with the boot center on mark.
I had the first generation ski and mounted it 2cm ahead and they skied fine, just not a lot of pop in that ski for me.

I have 174's with dynafits and megarides, first edition skis, mounted on the line. I find them to ski short and with the megarides have to stand fairly centered. If I try to drive the ski too much the boot doesn't support it, but the skis also feel very short. I'm 5'9" and 175lbs w/o gear. I have never had an issue making them turn even on steep hardened spring snow. The tails do feel short, but the tips feel short too. They stand just as tall as my 183 gotamas, leaned against the wall, but ski much shorter, about 9 cm's so... go figure.
