Any Other G3 Onyx Users Out There? was created by DCM
Curious to see what other's impressions are about the G3 Onyx bindings this year. I haven't seen a whole lot of other skiers with these bindings yet.
I have had mixed results with mine. I've had days (in-bounds and in the BC) where they have skied flawlessly and other days where they seem to mysteriously come out of ski mode (read: not release, but come out of ski mode). Also, I have had issues with the heel lifters icing (lower heel lifter) and coming off (both). Anyway, anybody had any of these problems?
Despite these issues I am reasonably happy with them...of course I am a telemarker and this year was the first time I had my heel locked down since I was kid, so take that comment with a grain of salt...

I have about 10 days on mine. All inbounds, the snow pack and my schedule have not agreed. I have had no issues with them at all. Very solid, It feels like I am in alpine binders. I have never skied on dynafits so I really can not compare the two but I will say they are a whole lot more responsive, rigid, tight etc. than my freeride plus binders.
I took a gamble based on the fact that you can swap them from ski to ski (extra mounting plate is $69) and I have no regrets. My hope is that more manufactures take notice of the onyx design (and dynadukes idea) and incorporate swapabilty into more designs.

Just broadening my horizons. I still telemark, but I like the AT bindings for crappy snow conditions and/or longer tours.
Interesting how few people are using these bindings around here.

A lot of people probably dont use them cause, well, there isnt much benefit over dynafits and why go away from a tried and true binding? Its the same DIN (5-10) as the vertical ST but weights a pound more. The quick ski/tour switch i think most people realize isnt really that big of a deal as how often do you switch without getting out of your bindings ot put on/take off skins anyways. The heel lifts do seem interesting but there again i look at it like meh i dont switch all that often and when i do i dont mind the 3-5 second break it takes to switch.
Its just to much like a dynafit i think for it to really take off with no real advantages. Its basically the same toe and the heel improvements sre just kind of, meh. The best thing about them is the plates so you can switch them between skis.
The binding im looking forward to is the skitrab one. Dynafit toe with a more tradition downhill style heel. looks interesting

Crappy pictures, but I love the new ideas and competition for Dynafit since the patent expired:
